1776 at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center is a powerful community collaboration bringing history to life on stage. In partnership with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, Cedar Falls Community Theatre, and Waterloo Community Playhouse, this production unites some of the Cedar Valley’s most talented artists. It tells the remarkable true story of the Continental Congress and the intense debates that led to the approval of the Declaration of Independence—when leaders from the thirteen colonies disagreed fiercely and came close to abandoning the fight for independence altogether. At a time when conversations about leadership, compromise, and the meaning of democracy feel more relevant than ever—and in celebration of America’s 250th birthday—1776 offers a timely chance to reflect on our nation’s beginnings. Together, we’re telling this story in a bold, dynamic way—blending live music, theater, and local passion into an unforgettable theatrical experience that celebrates how far we’ve come and what it takes to keep moving forward.
