The Gallagher Bluedorn is a hub of performing arts activity for Northeast Iowa. From touring Classical music and Broadway productions to world renowned comics and rock and roll and from international performers to local artists the Gallagher Bluedorn provides world class shows to the people of Iowa. Big city arts and entertainment in a small metro area is one of the things that makes the Cedar Valley great.
Economic Impact
A recent study of the overall economic impact of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, as provided by the national not-for-profit Americans for the Arts, shows the direct economic impact of the Gallagher Bluedorn to be $5,307,000. This includes support of salaries, wages, and goods, in addition to local and state government revenues.
This is only part of the story because money spent at the Gallagher Bluedorn is impactful in many ways. Money spent by Cedar Valley-area citizens keeps cultural tourism dollars in the Cedar Valley, rather than exporting those dollars to other cities and states. Dollars stay local and are re-spent within our community by supporting local businesses and paying salaries. A pride point is the money brought into our community from visiting cultural tourists. Nearly 35% of Gallagher Bluedorn audience members come from outside a 50-mile radius of Cedar Falls. These visitors are more likely to eat in our restaurants, shop our businesses, and stay in area hotels. This imported money stays in our community and generates greater economic activity. A planned renovation and expansion of the Gallagher Bluedorn will make the facility even more attractive to visiting tourists.
