Gallagher Bluedorn and Community Partners Announce Young Frankenstein as Replacement for 1776

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, the Cedar Falls Community Theatre, the Waterloo Community Playhouse, and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony have jointly made the difficult decision to replace their planned production of 1776 with Young Frankenstein.

After careful consideration throughout the casting process, the partner organizations determined that they did not have the level of casting participation needed to bring the production to life as originally envisioned. While this was not an easy decision, the organizations believe this change allows them to deliver the high-quality theatrical experience audiences and performers have come to expect from their collaborative productions.

The organizations are grateful to everyone who participated in auditions and shared their time, talent, and enthusiasm for 1776. Their commitment to supporting local theatre and the arts in the Cedar Valley is deeply appreciated.

Instead of 1776, audiences will enjoy Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, the Broadway musical comedy based on the Academy Award-winning film. Filled with outrageous humor, memorable musical numbers, and beloved characters, Young Frankenstein promises an entertaining experience for audiences of all ages.

“We know many patrons were looking forward to 1776, and we feel this disappointment deeply,” said Anne Lefter, Executive Director of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. “At the same time, we are committed to bringing the community an unforgettable theatrical experience that celebrates the talent of local performers, musicians, and volunteers. The entire artistic team is dedicating our efforts to making Young Frankenstein an event to remember, through the strength and resourcefulness of our incredible partner organizations.”

Performance dates for Young Frankenstein will be Friday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m.; and Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. Current ticket holders for 1776 will be contacted directly with information regarding their ticket options.

Auditions for Young Frankenstein will be held on Tuesday, August 18th, 6:00 and Thursday, August 20th, 6:00  at the Waterloo Community Playhouse Walker Building. Additional details regarding casting and ticket availability will be announced soon.

The Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, the Cedar Falls Community Theatre, the Waterloo Community Playhouse, and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony remain proud to collaborate in bringing exceptional performing arts experiences to the Cedar Valley and thank patrons, volunteers, and artists for their continued support and understanding.
