Still on the fence? Hear from Waterloo Community Schools Teacher Kelsey Schreibel how she incorporated this virtual performance into her classroom.
Why was this performance selected to share with your students?
We chose this performance because it aligned with our literacy curriculum! We had a whole text set dedicated to "animal tales" and The Little Red Hen was a story that we focused closely on and that students really enjoyed reading. We thought that students would enjoy a theatrical version so we could compare and contrast the book we had read.
How did your students respond?
Our students LOVED the performance! They definitely enjoyed the huor and songs especially. It was fun for them to watch the traditional story come to life with a little bit of a twist and some additional characters. Students were highly engaged from the start to the finish of the performance!
How did this performance/experience tie into classroom learning?
This was a highly engaging text set for our students because of the repetitious nature of the stories and the fun animal characters. We thought watching the performance would be a great way to expand our conversations related to the animal tale text set! It was also a great way for us to talk about what it's like to go to a performance venue like the Gallagher in real life and discuss appropriate audience behavior.
