There is no band out there that does what the SFJAZZ Collective is doing… a meeting of brilliant jazz minds, all stars in their own right, in a concert that celebrates this American art form. Since the Collective made its debut in 2004, the band has delivered jazz that looks back to the masters and forward to a new standard of virtuosity and ensemble playing. This season the Collective will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a program of its greatest works from the past decade featuring the band’s fresh take on Horace Silver’s bop classic, “Cape Verdean Blues,” Coltrane’s classic “Africa,” a remarkable re-imagining of the Stevie Wonder classic, “Superstition,” and the Collective’s own original compositions. You simply can’t beat some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians playing some of the world’s greatest jazz music.
