Frequently Asked Questions
"Do students go to the performances?"
Students make up about one third or more of our audiences, depending on the show. Students have a unique opportunity to experience all kinds of performances including Broadway shows, unique musical groups, professional dance companies and high energy entertainment shows right here at UNI. The tickets for students are comparably inexpensive - 50% off our regular adult prices.
"You don't have anyone I recognize — Can't you get big names?"
Though we don't have big names in industries such as rock or country, we do have big names in musicals, classical performers and other kinds of music and dance groups. The Gallagher-Bluedorn is best suited for a small, more intimate experience. Venues such as the McLeod Center and UNI-Dome are better for bigger performances. Our program reflects our desire to give you choices you won't have on stages elsewhere.
"Do you have any music other than classical there?"
We do have classical music – with a talented Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony and many wonderful UNI chamber artists and ensembles. But that's certainly not all we offer. We present jazz, theatre, vocal music, modern dance and many artists and types of performance that cross over genres.
"Don't you have to know a lot about performing arts to attend?"
This is a great place to learn about the performing arts. It's a venue new to Cedar Falls, so many people who come here are trying things out for the first time. Unsure where to begin? Check our student picks. Or visit the
and come up with a selection of your own.
"Do you have to dress up?"
There is no dress code here. Many people do dress up, but others don't. You can wear jeans or whatever makes you comfortable.
"Is it expensive?"
UNI students receive a 50% discount on tickets for any show in the Artist Series. Tickets are limited to one discount ticket per student ID.
In addition, UNI students may purchase tickets for $5 to select performances that are not sold out on the day of the show. These tickets are available for pick up starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the performance at the Ticket Office. Coming soon, students will be able to sign up for a free e-mail alert to be notified when $5 tickets are available.
"They offer all the good seats to the older people -- How can students get good seats?"
There is a preview day in the spring to preview the shows for the upcoming season before the general public. On this day, students can purchase tickets for the shows they want to attend and get priority on seats.
UNI students can order tickets to the '06-'07 Season starting on Tuesday, April 25, at the student season announcement party which begins at 8 p.m. in the Gallagher-Bluedorn lobby. Tickets go on-sale to the public on Thursday, June 1.
Also, to ensure good seats, students can purchase a Friends membership for $25 which is half the price of the lowest adult membership. Members are notified earlier of upcoming shows and also can purchase tickets sooner than the general public.
"You have to order tickets in advance -- what if I'm busy that day?"
Though this is a genuine concern, there is not much the Gallagher-Bluedorn can do. Unless contractually obligated by a performer or performance group, they will not hold back seats. Holding back seats for students results in the possibility of open seats when the show could have been sold out. However, there is the $5 student ticket that can be purchased on the day of the show. |
