| The magical tale of a nine-foot long,
smoke-breathing dragon, a beautiful maiden, a brave fisherman, told
with a dazzling array of traditional puppets from around the world.
Thrill to exquisite life-size bunraku, classic puppets from Japan,
whose realistic movements are controlled by as many as three puppeteers
at a time. Savor the spirit of the Pacific Northwest as artful reproductions
of colorful Native American masks come alive. You’ll also
witness the rousing antics of Punch and Judy from Europe and the
alluring charm of shadow puppets from Indonesia in this original
tale of conflict, wisdom, hope, and love. |

This dramatization provides a fascinating glimpse
into the lives of the many diverse immigrants who passed through
New York’s Ellis Island, America’s “front door
to freedom” in the early 1900’s. At times over 10,000
people a day came through the island’s gates, searching for
a prosperous new life. Actress Pippa White brings the immigration
experience to life as she introduces many intriguing characters
from all over the globe, complete with authentic dialects and costumes.

A family’s strength often lies within its moral
fabric. Their ability to overcome adversity signifies their capability
to survive. However, in the Deep South of the 1920’s, the
atmosphere still smells of pre-Civil War oppression. African-American
families are still subject to fierce prejudice from their neighbors
as the try to forge a formidable new life. The Love family is stricken
in an unforgivable way which drives young Erma Jean Love in to silence.
In an attempt to abandon these injustices, the family migrates to
Chicago, only to encounter similar if not more severe circumstances.
Color Me Dark explores the lives of two sisters, Erma Jean and Nellie
Lee Love, as they bear witness to a time of great social uprising.
While Erma Jean finds comfort in her silence, Nellie Lee is forced
to defend both herself and her sister as the try to find a new life
in Chicago. Not only do they survive prejudice from small minded
individuals but the conflict of light versus dark skin divides them
amongst their own people. This poignant story is sure to keep you
enraptures in the beauty of its words and the magnitudes of its
powerful message. |
