Ying Quartet
The Ying siblings have quickly forged a name for themselves on the world's
most prestigious stages, earning recognition for their brilliant concert
performances, energy, intelligence and passion. The four siblings of the
Naumburg Award-winning Ying Quartet are as much appreciated for their
graceful, elegant interpretations of standard quartet literature as for
their youthful exuberance and dynamism. Those of you who remember their
brilliant residency in Jesup ten years ago, will welcome them back to
the Cedar Valley with open arms.
Asleep At The Wheel
For three decades, Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel have kept the pilot
light on for Western swing. In the process, the band has earned seven
Grammy Awards, the most recent one in February 2001, for best country
performance by a duo or group with vocal.
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis
Wynton Marsalis is the most accomplished and acclaimed jazz artist and
composer of his generation. He has helped propel jazz to the forefront
of American culture through his brilliant performances and recordings.
Throughout his impressive career Marsalis has recorded more than 30 jazz
and classical recordings, which have won him eight Grammy Awards. Come
join Wynton for an unforgettable evening at the Gallagher-Bluedorn as
he leads the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, which has many of the finest
and most versatile jazz instrumentalists today.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will amaze you with their imaginative use
of jazz, ballet and acrobatics as a rhythmically based dance that is impeccably
performed and fast-paced. They have thrilled audiences with their artistry
and spirit.
I Musici de Montreal
Acclaimed for their virtuoso performances throughout the world, the I
Musici de Montreal will give an expressive concert of classical compositions
at the Gallagher-Bluedorn. Featuring pianist, Anton Kuerti, I Musici will
bring classical music to life. I Musici de Montreal has played the world's
major concert halls, including New York's Lincoln Center, the Palaise
des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and Tokyo's Kioi Hall.
The Magic Flute
UNI School of Music and UNI's Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center
come together to produce a stellar production of Mozart's The Magic Flute--featuring
the best of UNI's vocal talent melded with professional production and
guest performers.
The Nutcracker by Ballet Internationale
A new holiday tradition featuring Ballet Internationale and children
of the Cedar Valley. Tchaikovsky's traditional holiday classic debuts
at the Gallagher-Bluedorn to entertain and delight the whole family. This
enchanting ballet, complete with elaborate costumes, sets, and dancing,
will offer all of the magic needed to bring alive this holiday season.
Dancing snowflakes and flowers, battling mice and soldiers, a visit to
the Land of Sweets with the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the final battle between
the Mouse King and the Nutcracker promise to make this a memorable experience
for the entire family!
A Celtic Christmas
Celtic Christmas recreates the joy and innocence of a night in a remote
Irish farmhouse in the west of Ireland in the days before modern conveniences.
Long before Riverdance, ordinary Irish men and women in hob-nailed boots
knocked sparks off the flagstone floors of their cottages with their jigs,
reels, and hornpipes; and the rafters rang with the fiery music of the
fiddle, the tin whistle, and the mesmerizing uilleann pipes. A Celtic
Christmas is a loving creation of such a night by some of the most gifted
exponents of the Celtic arts performing today. Rekindle the flame in the
hearth with stories, dance, music, and song from Ireland.
Porgy and Bess
The story of the crippled Porgy has become one of America's most significant
musical compositions. With the seductive Bess, the menacing Crown and
the slinky cocaine dealer Sportin' Life on Catfish Row in Charleston,
South Carolina, Porgy and Bess comes to life on the stage of the Great
Hall. Including hit songs by George Gershwin "It Ain't Necessarily
So," "I Got Plenty O' Nuttin'" and "Summertime."
Preservation Hall Jazz Band
The sweet sounds of Bourbon Street come to life at the GBPAC! The world
famous gentlemen musicians of Preservation Hall transport us to another
time - an era when Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton were kings of
the jazz world. You can bet there will be foot-stomping, hand-clapping
and dancing in the aisles as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band takes us
to the saloons and street parades of turn-of-the-century New Orleans.
A perennial favorite, Preservation Hall Jazz Band brings its signature
brand of jazz to the Gallagher-Bluedorn. This is a happy music with the
unmistakable form and beat that comes from the saloons, street parades
and riverboats of turn-of-the-century New Orleans. So clap your hands
and get ready to "march with the saints" on a music-filled journey
down Bourbon Street.
Annie Get Your Gun
There's no business like show business! And there's nothing like Annie
Get Your Gun, the rip-roaring, sharp-shooting, heart-pounding musical
story of romance and rivalry between Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. The
glorious Irving Berlin score features some of the best songs ever written
for the Broadway stage - "There's No Business Like Show Business,"
"I Got the Sun in the Morning," "You Can't Get a Man With
a Gun," They Say It's Wonderful" and "Anything You Can
Do (I Can Do Better)." You'll leave the theater laughing and tapping
your toes to the catchy tunes of Annie Get Your Gun.
St. Petersburg Ice Ballet Cinderella
Pumpkin coaches, handsome princes, glass slippers and fairy godmothers
- experience the wonder of Cinderella!Imagine the Great Hall stage transformed
into a grand skating paradise. Artistic Director Konstantin Rassadin,
former principal dancer and choreographer of the Kirov Ballet, oversees
a company of 35 champion ice dancers in a production of the beloved fairy
tale, Cinderella. With over 100 spectacular costumes and brilliant choreography,
the Ice Ballet combines the grace and elegance of classical ballet with
the breathtaking athleticism of ice skating to create a unique theatrical
experience sure to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
National Song & Dance of Mozambique
Driving rhythms…exhilarating dance…striking images…exquisite
costumes and joy. The fascination of the National Song & Dance of
Mozambique comes to the Gallagher-Bluedorn with their collection of traditional
and contemporary dances that will wow you.
Academy of St. Martin in the Field Chamber Ensemble
Academy of St Martin in the Fields, without exception, is one of the
best chamber ensembles in the world. With over 500 recordings to its credit,
ranging from baroque and classical to the romantic and 20th century, the
Academy remains the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world. It has
received many prestigious international awards, including eight Edisons,
the Canadian Grand Prix and a multitude of gold discs - thirteen alone
for the soundtrack of Milos Forman's film Amadeus. Another more recent
soundtrack, The English Patient, won an Oscar for Best Sound.
The Merry Widow
With its society balls and sumptuous dinners, its elegant ladies and
coterie of eligible bachelors, this dazzling operetta epitomizes the intoxicating
glamour of the end of the 19th century. The highly-acclaimed London City
Opera presents waltzing rhythms and soft, dreamy melodies in a score that
will make you want to follow our hero Danilo to Paris and the grisettes
at Maxim's!
Penn and Teller
Magic and mayhem on the stage of the Gallagher-Bluedorn. Penn & Teller
are a couple of guys who have learned how to do a few cool things. Together
since 1975, their award-winning theater show has been a long running hit
on and off -Broadway.
Gaelic Storm
This lively band debuts at the Gallagher-Bluedorn with their unique mix
of traditional Irish music, original songs, and good humor. This band
was chosen by James Cameron, director of the blockbuster Titanic, to be
the "steerage party" band in the movie. Since that breakthrough,
they have released two widely distributed CDs (Gaelic Storm and the latest,
Herding Cats) and given hundreds of concerts. Their thundering rhythms,
exuberant delivery, and great rapport with their audiences have won them
fans worldwide. Come and hear hilarious Irish tales of lore and legend
and dance to the music. Kilts optional.
Evelyn Glennie
She has collected 44 awards including a Grammy, and has won the acclaim
of the world's most venerable musicians and critics, who must stretch
their vocabularies to describe this "thrilling, hyperkinetic wild
woman" and the "glorious ruckus she creates."
Evelyn Glennie is a force of nature, a gift of music to the world. This
young Scotswoman has redefined solo percussion in the realm of classical
music. Has melded traditions and instrumentation from around the world
to create new ways of performing and, indeed, of hearing percussion as
music in its own right. Because she has defied convention by crossing
the traditionally rigid boundaries of formal, folkloric, and popular musical
forms, this uncommonly versatile musician has managed to draw new audiences
to the classical world.
Ballet Hispanico
Debut of co-commissioned work. Come to the Gallagher-Bluedorn as we premiere
the co-commissioned work, Eyes of the Soul. Founded in 1970, Ballet Hispanico
is recognized around the world as the foremost dance interpreter of Hispanic
culture in the United States. Described as "a great treasure in the
dance world" (Buenos Aires Herald) and "a stunning ensemble"
(Village Voice), this award-winning company blends ballet, modern dance
and folkloric dance from throughout the Spanish-speaking world with "dazzling
virtuosity" (New York Times).
Bravo Broadway with the W/CF Symphony Orchestra
If you love Broadway, don't miss the best of Broadway and the best of
the Cedar Valley ads the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra teams
up with some of Broadway's brightest stars. Featuring Christiane Noll,
Ron Raines and J. Mark McVey. Noll made her Broadway debut starring in
Jekyll & Hyde, creating the role of Emma. Ron Raines, nominated three
times for the Soap Opera Digest Award as "Outstanding Villain,"
joined the cast of the popular CBS-TV daytime series Guiding Light in
1994, in the pivotal role of "Alan Spaulding". On Broadway he
first gained prominence when he starred as Gaylord Ravenal in the 1983
revival of Jerome Kern's Showboat. J. Mark McVey made his Broadway debut
as Jean Valjean, in Les Miserables.
