What are the arrival procedures (arrival, unloading, parking)?
- It is suggested that your group arrive 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the performance. Buses will utilize the frontage road for drop-off. Buses will be greeted by GBPAC staff and will direct the driver to parking and the process for pick-up. Follow this link for driving directions http://www.gbpac.com/about/maps.shtml.
- If you are driving separately in a personal car or school van, you will need a parking voucher that will allow you to park in the campus parking lot. Your show ticket will enable you to receive this parking voucher. These vehicles are able to park in the metered lot located near the GBPAC. Vehicles parked without a valid pass will be ticketed.
What are the policies for reservations and payment for Kaleidoscope shows?
- No deposit is required with your reservation. You will receive written confirmation of your reservation, payment status, and purchase agreement 6-8 weeks before each show. If you are unsure of the number of students attending a particular performance, you may estimate that number on the order form. We will allow a variance of up to 10% on the number of seats ordered. It is best to estimate a little higher, in case a show sells out. Requests for extra student seats will take precedence over requests for extra adult seats.
- After you receive your purchase agreement, sign and return it to the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center no later than two weeks after you receive it. If the quantity has changed, please indicate the change on the agreement. Payment is due 30 days prior to the event, or your seats will be released. After the payment is received, reductions cannot be made to your reservation. These numbers are final. Payment will be accepted by check, money order, or credit card.
Where do we sit?
- Seating is pre-arranged and based on age, specials needs of students, and the size of the group --- not in order of date your order was received. A GBPAC representative will direct your group to your assigned seats.
Can you accommodate a group with special needs?
- We offer a number of services for patrons with special needs, including wheelchair accessible seating, American Sign Language interpretation, hearing assisted devices and Braille programs. Please make note of you group’s special needs on the order form or by calling 319-273-7469 at least two weeks prior to the show to ensure availability of your requested service.
What if I’m home schooled?
- The Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center is pleased to offer programs to area Home school families. Please be advised that audience members must be at least four years of age, and every audience member must have a paid seat. Full payment must be received 30 days prior to the performance or your seats will be released.
- Home school families will not receive refunds or payment transfers unless the performance is cancelled or there is inclement weather in your area. If schools in your area are closed and you are unable to make it to a performance due to inclement weather, you must notify the education department within one day of the performance in order to receive a credit to a future show.
What is admission?
- The Kaleidoscope Series is “A Buck a Kid”. Teacher, chaperone and bus driver seats are also just $1 per ticket.
What if I need to make a change to my reservation?
- If your school is postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather on the day of a show, notify the ticket office within three (3) business days, and your account will be credited for use toward a future show.
- Because we are unable to resell reserved seats, no refunds will be issued for unused seats on the day of the performance, including student illnesses. If the performance you register for is sold out, you will be notified and given the option of selecting another performance that has availability.
How long does the performance last?
- Kaleidoscope Series performances vary in length but most range from 45-75 minutes. The length of your specific show should be listed under its description at http://www.gbpac.com/outreach/kaleidoscope/index.shtml
What if my group would like to arrange lunch while we are on the UNI campus?
- Bring a sack lunch and enjoy eating at the UNI-Dome on Kaleidoscope days. Reservations are required by calling Sarah Harms at 319-273-7050 at least one week in advance.
What is appropriate show etiquette?
- Most of the Kaleidoscope shows are designed to encourage audience participation and many of the performances thrive on the students being actively involved, but it is important to remind your students of a few basic etiquette rules.
- Remember, these are live performers and distracting behavior in the audience can distract them from doing their job.
- Clap at times when it is appropriate, to thank a performer or to follow a performers instructions.
- Please have the chaperons, 1 for every 15 students, sit among the students rather than together, this helps monitor student behavior. Food and drinks are not permitted in the Great Hall. Please do not allow students to bring cameras or recording devices.
- Please be sure that each of your chaperons receives a copy of the “Guidelines for Kaleidoscope Chaperons” before the performance.
What types of classroom extension opportunities are there?
- We offer study guides and curriculum materials for every Kaleidoscope Series performance. They can be downloaded beginning September 18 by following the Education/Outreach links and locating your particular performance.
- You can also engage your students both before and after the Kaleidoscope performance by having a member of our Kaleidoscope Connections Education Team visit you classroom to implement activities and discussions related to the performance.
- Teacher and student assessments are available online at www.gbpac.com in the Kaleidoscope link, hard copies are available upon request. Please take the time to complete an evaluation and submit it to the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center Education Department so that we may better serve your needs.
