Professional Development for Teachers

Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa and Waterloo Community Schools are offering a hands-on seminar designed to develop the skills of artists and educators in presenting educational workshops for teachers. Kaleidoscope Connections

Engage your students both before and after the Kaleidoscope performance by having a UNI Education major visit your classroom to implement activities and discussions related to the performance. You can learn more on the Kaleidoscope Connections page

 

Creative Classrooms

The Iowa Arts Council and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa support arts education opportunities that expand or enhance classroom learning for greater student achievement. Go to the Creative Classrooms page to learn more.

Satellite Communities

Since 2004, the Gallagher-Bluedorn has extended activities and programs to surrounding communities in Iowa. This project enriches rural towns with arts and cultural experiences. For more information, go to the Satellite Communities page.

 

Learning Mathematics and Science Through the Arts

The Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center been granted funds to support the State of Iowa’s Mathematics & Science Education Partnership, in its efforts with preparing more high-quality mathematics and science teachers for Iowa’s schools. The project focuses primarily on offering a series of inter-active professional development workshops for teachers, in addition to UNI education students. Poetry Out Loud

Joining Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Context is a great way to teach poetry and help students with written and oral communication skills. Poetry Out Loud was designed so that teachers may easily implement this ‘poetry bee’ contest in the classroom. Poetry Out Load awards more than $100,000 in prizes to students and schools at the state and national levels. For more information, go to the Poetry Out Loud page.
