The Iowa Arts Council and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa support arts education opportunities that expand and enhance classroom learning for greater student achievement.
Hosting a Creative Classroom Teaching Artist supports opportunities that:
- Employ the arts as a tool to teach core subjects, such as reading, writing, history, math, science and social studies
- Allow students to grow in confidence, self-esteem and appreciation of their own and other students‚ talents and abilities
- Assist educators to implement innovative strategies in the arts curriculum
Program Details
The teaching artist will visit your school for five consecutive days, seeing the same students throughout the week. The residency will consist of five components with the artist and teacher(s):
- Planning meeting with the lead teacher, via phone or on-site
- Artist performance
- Individual classroom sessions
- Culminating event with the students
- Residency evaluation
Creative Classroom Teaching Artists have developed week-long residencies that infuse both art and core curricular standards and are tailored for specific grade levels. Learn which artists best fit your classroom by viewing their residency description and appropriate grade level.
