Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking are the essential concepts and skills of the 21st Century and the arts provide opportunities to practice these skills. The Allen Hospital’s Kaleidoscope Series for Youth, “A Buck A Kid” offers many extensions of classroom curriculum which not only promotes the four C’s, but also exposes students to the performing arts. The Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center is pleased to offer 38 performances at the University of Northern Iowa and “On the Road” throughout Eastern Iowa.
Be sure to check out the many possibilities of going Beyond The Performance for your students, such as a theater tour, in-school artist residency, or kaleidoscope connections lesson. Study guides are also available on our web site which provides discussion and critical thinking for our students.
Also available to school groups is the Big Yellow School Bus Grant through the Iowa Arts Council. School buildings are granted up to $250 for field trip expenses. Check out www.iowaartscouncil.org/funding/big-yellow-school-bus and apply beginning July 1st, 2011.
Come, explore the arts and the many opportunities it provides.
