In the early months of the Gallagher-Bluedorn’s first full season, then-Friends board member C. Hugh Pettersen proposed having a spring benefit concert which would showcase performers with ties to the Cedar Valley. Hugh secured all of the performers, and the event was a great success. Since that time, Hugh has been impresario for every one of the ensuing shows. The performers, who graciously donate their time and talents, seem to enjoy the concert as much as the audiences do.

Performers will include:
·         Fred Halgedahl, UNI Associate Professor of Music, Violin will play the poignant Meditation from Massenet’s Thais.

·         Bob Washut, Piano (UNI’s Professor of Music) and Chris Merz, Saxophone (UNI’s Associate Professor of Music) will form a Jazz Duo to present a few jazz favorites.

·         The Union Show Choir from LaPorte City will perform a medley of melodies.

·         UNI’s Taiko Ensemble under UNI’s Associate Professor of Music, Randy Hogancamp will present in concert dress a unique glimpse and selections on thirteen hand-made Japanese drums: shime-daikos, okedo-daikos, katsugi-daikos, and a five-foot hira-daiko.

·         Song-bird and operatic soprano Karen Holvik returns to the Cedar Valley this time with jazz standards performed with pianist Bob Washut.

·         As the finale of the concert, Four Spouses and Five Grands, professional pianists, performing on five grand pianos on the Gallagher-Bluedorn stage. Artists for this concert will be four spouses plus Marleta Matheson. They will create the spectacular Five Grand conclusion. (Sean Botkin (UNI’s Assistant Professor of Music) and Serena Hou (UNI Music Instructor); Dmitry Vorobiev (UNI’s Assistant Professor of Music) and Polina Khatsko (UNI Music Instructor) with Marleta Matheson.)

We hope you will join us for what promises to be a great evening of music. General admission tickets are $20 and $5 for 18 and under. It’s the best bargain in the Cedar Valley!
